Description
The cartshed, shelter sheds, and pigsties located to the north-west of Hemscott Hill farmhouse date from the early to mid-19th century. The cartsheds are built from rubble, while the other buildings are constructed of roughly-squared stone with tooled-and-margined quoins, all topped with slate roofs. The shelter shed is in an L-shape; the south wing features three segmental arches and a left return with a round-arched pigeon opening, while the west wing has two segmental arches and a boarded door to the right. The gables are adorned with moulded kneelers and coping. The pigsties, which are attached to the north-east corner of the west wing, have reverse-stepped gables. There are twin yards to the east, enclosed by walls with chamfered coping. The cartshed, which is attached to the south-east corner of the south wing, consists of four bays, three of which are open with plain piers and timber lintels, and includes a coalhouse to the right. It has a pent roof, and the taller rear wall features a doorway with an alternating-block surround.
