Description
The Moor Game Byre, located 600 metres west of New House Farm, is a mid-18th century farm building that served as a stable, cartshed, and hayloft. It is constructed from coursed, roughly-squared stone with cut quoins and dressings, topped with a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high and consists of four irregular bays.
On the left side, there is a doorway with a chamfered stone surround and a small window beneath a timber lintel. Further to the right, there is a part-blocked arcade featuring three semicircular arches made of handmade brick, with a boarded window in a stone surround above the central arch. The left return displays a tall, blind round-headed arch, while the right return has a stone-surround pitching door, which bears the initials HI on the left jamb, and a reverse-stepped gable. At the rear, there is one loft window with a stone surround.
This building is the only surviving structure of a small farm and is situated on an isolated hilltop, contributing considerable landscape value.
