Description

The Hedley, Spearman and Bushby memorials, located 8 meters south of St. Andrew's Church in Hartburn, are 18th-century headstones and a table tomb made of sandstone. The smaller northern headstone features a moulded segmental top and a cherub above the inscription dedicated to Ann (who died in 1747) and Matthew Spearman. The southern headstone has a moulded curved top with a cherub over the inscription for Peter Hedley, who was a schoolmaster at Cambo and died around 1774. The table tomb is supported by six square moulded legs and features a large cartouche with shaped and scrolled edges that carries an inscription for Thomas Bushby and his family, although the date is illegible. A cherub is positioned at the head of the tomb, with a death's head at the foot.
