Description
Nos. 12 and 14 on Main Street in Ponteland are a farmhouse and hind's cottage, now converted into two houses, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. They are built of brick in English Garden Wall Bond and feature a Welsh slate roof.
No. 12, which is on the right and is taller, has two storeys and three bays. It includes a six-panel door set in a stone Tuscan surround with a cornice. The windows are renewed 15-pane top-hung casements in their original openings, which have wedge lintels and projecting sills. The building has a gabled roof with end stacks and a round-headed stair window with intersecting glazing bars at the rear.
To the left of No. 12 is a rusticated segmental carriage arch, which has original 16-pane casements to the left and above it.
No. 14, located further left, also has two storeys. It features a 20th-century door with an overlight and wedge lintel. There is an original 16-pane casement window to the left and another with a segmental head on the first floor. This house also has a gabled roof with end stacks on the left.
