Description
This icehouse, likely built in the late 18th century, is located on the east bank of a stream, approximately 500 metres north-north-west of Beaufront Castle. It is constructed from roughly-squared stone with tooled dressings and has a rectangular shape with rounded corners, measuring about 10 by 6 metres externally. The walls are partly hidden by earth and vegetation. On the north side, there is a rebated doorway framed by an alternating-block surround. Inside, a passage features a round-arched barrel vault that leads to a second doorway, which opens into a square chamber with a similar vault and a floor that is at a significantly lower level. The walls of the chamber contain rectangular lockers.
