Description
This memorial, located approximately 30 yards south of the Church of St. Giles, was erected in 1837 to honor John Saint, the owner of Cocklaw Fulling Mill. It is made of sandstone and stands about 5 feet high. The memorial features a lobed top with low-relief carvings depicting Cocklaw Fulling Mill and various tools associated with the fulling trade. The carvings are flanked by inverted anthemia. Below the carvings, there is an inscription dedicated to John Saint, which is bordered by pilasters that are partly fluted and partly adorned with inverted fleurs de lys.
