Description
This milepost, located 30 meters west of Camp House, is likely from the late 19th century and possibly made by Smith Paterson of Blaydon. It is constructed from cast iron and was originally painted red, later repainted white with black figures. The milepost stands at an original height of 0.60 meters but is now partly sunk into the ground. It features a facetted twin-faced oval top on a fluted shaft, with the raised legend indicating the distances to Morpeth and Belsay: "MORPETH / BELSAY 5¼ 4 MILES MILES." The milepost has sustained slight damage and is at risk from mechanised verge trimmers.
