Description

Milkhope Farm Cottages Nos. 1-4 are two pairs of cottages built in the mid-19th century, featuring linking walls to the rear privy and coal store blocks. The cottages are constructed from coursed squared sandstone with tooled and margined flush alternating jambs, cills, and lintels. They have stone eaves corbels and a Scottish slate roof with a stone ridge and copings on deep kneelers, as well as banded ridge chimneys. The cottages are single-storey structures. On the left, Nos. 1 and 2 have 4 and 5 bays, with the 3 right bays being extensions. On the right, Nos. 3 and 4 have 6 and 3 bays, with the 3 left bays also being extensions. Each cottage features 4-panel doors with overlights and replaced 12-pane sash windows. At the back, L-shaped walls at either end lead to 4 small pent blocks, with 2 located in the angles and 2 at the extremities, all having boarded doors and small casements.
