Description
Fairshaw Farmhouse and the adjoining farmbuilding were constructed in 1743, as indicated by the date on the door lintel, with early and mid-19th century alterations and additions. The buildings are made of squared rubble with dressings, featuring purple slate roofs and dressed stone chimneys.
The farmhouse is a 2-storey, 3-bay structure with tooled quoins. The first floor was rebuilt in the 19th century. The openings have flush surrounds with alternating jambs. The central entrance features a partly-glazed 4-panel door with the inscription "L A I 1743" (referring to Lancelot Allgood) and has replaced 6-pane sash windows. The roof is low-pitched with coped gables and end stacks that have top bands.
To the right of the house is a long 2-storey range of farm buildings, which were constructed in several phases. This range includes loose-boxes on the left and a cart-shed on the right. There are two boarded doors in chamfered surrounds with alternating jambs on the left, and four segmental arches on square-plan piers on the right, with five openings above. The range features stone gutter brackets and a low-pitched roof with a coped right gable. An external stone stair is located on the right return of the farmhouse. Additionally, there is a 2-storey gabled wing and a single-storey outshut at the rear of the house.
