Description
The Old Limekilns, located 50 metres north of Kiln Rigg, are limekilns that likely date from the early 19th century. They are constructed from roughly-squared stone and feature brick dressings around the eyes. The structure consists of two adjacent triple kilns that share a common approach ramp. The kilns facing west have curved recesses instead of traditional drawing arches, with single triangular-headed eyes and raking buttresses between them, as well as a partly collapsed circular pot. The kilns that face south-east have gable-headed drawing arches and paired segmental-headed eyes.
