Description

This obelisk, located approximately 440 yards south-west of Kirkley Hall, was built in 1788 by Newton Ogle. It is made of ashlar and features a square base inscribed with the words "VINDICATA LIBERTAS PUBLICA MDCCCLXXXVIII NEWTON OGLE." The obelisk has a tall, tapering shaft that culminates in a pyramidal top. On the south side, there is an oval panel that appears to be carved with a cap on a stick. It was likely erected to commemorate the centenary of the 1688 revolution.
