Description

Old Lodge, located 50 metres west of the main entrance to Chesters, is a gate lodge built in the late 18th century and altered in the early 19th century. The north end is constructed of squared stone, while the other sides are made of rubble, featuring a tooled porch front and dressings. The roof is covered with stone slates.

The west elevation is a single storey with two bays. The central porch includes a vertical-panelled door set in a moulded surround with a flat-pointed head, topped by a coped gable on moulded kneelers. The flanking bays each have 8-pane fixed casements in chamfered surrounds. The gables are coped, and there are end stacks, with the left stack being stepped and banded, while the right stack is rendered. The left return features a plinth, a sill band, and a pedimented gable, along with two 16-pane sash windows. An added right bay is noted as not being of special interest.
