Description
The water mill, part of a planned farmbuilding layout, dates from the early 19th century. It is constructed of rubble with tooled quoins and dressings, and has a 20th-century asbestos roof. The building is in an L-shape. The north elevation consists of two sections; the left side is a single-storey, three-bay part featuring a boarded door in a chamfered alternating-block surround, a stable door in an alternating-block surround, and another boarded door under a timber lintel. In front of this section is a slabbed area that covers the head race and wheelpit. To the right, at a lower level, there is a projecting gabled bay with a rebated round arch, a window above, and a loft window in the gable. An attached revetment wall to the left includes an arched entrance to the wheelpit access tunnel.
The right return of the building is two storeys high and has three bays with slatted windows. The rear elevation features a doorway with a chamfered alternating-block surround and other openings, with the roof hipped to the left.
Inside, the wheelpit access tunnel has a tooled stone barrel vault, and the wheelpit is faced with tooled stone, housing a large wood-spoked waterwheel. An attached range to the east has been altered and is not of special interest.
