Description

This building is a bastle house that has been converted into an agricultural store and byre. It dates from the late 16th century or early 17th century and was altered in the late 17th century. Constructed from rubble with stone dressings and a stone slate roof, it stands two storeys high and features two wide bays. The central doorway is flanked by former two-light mullioned windows, which have been altered but still retain their original heads. Above, there are smaller windows that are now blocked, with the right-hand window still showing the sill of a two-light mullioned window.

On the left side, the building displays the original byre entrance, characterized by massive jambs and a slightly cambered lintel. The rear elevation features a small chamfered first-floor window that has holes for iron bars. To the right is the ruined wall of a second bastle-type structure, which includes a square-headed doorway. Inside, there is a late 17th-century fireplace with a roll-moulded surround. The later byre to the right has three slit vents and a pitching door, and this building is included for its group value.
