Description
The Old Smithy is a former smithy building dating from the 17th century or early 18th century, with alterations made in the later 19th century. It is constructed of rubble, heightened with roughly-squared stone, and features some cut dressings. The roof is covered with 20th-century pantiles and has a brick stack. The building has one storey plus an attic and consists of five bays. The central bay has four steps leading up to a renewed stable door, and there are sash windows with short three-pane upper sections and plain lower sections; all ground floor openings have renewed timber lintels. On the far left, there is a blocked doorway, and on the far right, there is a small blocked window with a timber lintel. The right bay features a late 19th-century raking half dormer with a three-pane casement set in a stop-chamfered stone surround. There is a reduced stack at the right end. Inside, there are remains of an old hearth against the rear wall. The building is included for its group value.
