Description
Nos. 1-5 on Shildon Road is a mid-18th century terrace that was altered in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed stone with stone slate roofs and consists of two storeys and six bays. There is a flush-panelled door between bays 1 and 2 (for No. 1) and vertical-panelled doors to the right of bays 3-6 (for Nos. 2-5). The doors for Nos. 3 and 4 feature 2-pane overlights, while No. 5 has a plain overlight. All doors are set within alternating-block surrounds. No. 1 has six-pane sash windows, No. 2 has twelve-pane sash windows, and Nos. 3-5 have casement windows, all within openings that have tooled-and-margined dressings. The eaves line steps up between Nos. 2 and 3. The left side of the roof has a stone left end and ridge stacks, while the right side has a stepped-and-corniced left end and two ridge stacks.
