Description
Orchard Place is a row of four houses built in 1825, featuring two storeys and a basement. The buildings have a total of three, four, and two windows, constructed from ashlar stone with a cornice, blocking course, and ashlar chimneys. Number 1 is slightly recessed, while numbers 2 and 3 have a parapet with a carved panel that reads "Orchard Place" above the date "1825" in the center. Numbers 1 and 2 have glazing bar sash windows, while numbers 3 and 4 have later glazing in their sashes. Number 1 includes a central Ionic portico with detached columns and side niches. The doorcases of numbers 2, 3, and 4 feature rosettes on the lintels and blocking courses, with decorative panelled pilasters on numbers 3 and 4. Steps lead up to the doorways of numbers 2 and 4. Number 3 has a large recent square bay window on the basement and ground floor, with the entrance located in the basement. Numbers 1 and 3 still have railings in front of their gardens, and number 4 has attic windows in the east gable. Orchard Place and the Archway form a cohesive group.
