Description
No 23 Priestpopple is a late 19th-century building that serves as the premises of the West Cumberland Farmers Trading Society Ltd. It stands four storeys high and consists of two sections, featuring a total of ten windows arranged in two groups of five. The exterior is made of squared coursed rubble and includes two sets of quoins, bands over each floor, a moulded cornice, and three kneelers. The building has coped verges that lead to small slate roofs and a high brick firewall. The windows are fitted with glazing bars and have buck dressings with upper casements.
There is a large through passage with a cobbled and wheel-paved approach from the street, marked by a semi-circular arch with quoins and a string course raised above the entrance. The building has two office doors, along with a larger, more recent entrance to the left. Above the office door on the right side, there is a tablet set into the wall that reads "A & C" over "Little" over "1884".
Nos 19 to 23 (odd) and the County Hotel form a group.
