Description

Wentworth Place is a terrace of houses dated 1826. It comprises three plus two plus one windows, and is stepped uphill. The construction is primarily brick with stone quoins, lintels, cills, kneelers, and coped verges to slate roofs, featuring brick chimneys. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars.

Number 1 has a three-light bay with later glazing, a doorcase with slender pilasters and hood, and a six-panel door with a rectangular light above. Number 2 features an early 20th century glazed porch. Number 3 is the largest, double-fronted, and includes steps on the left leading to the basement through a passage with a six-panel door. A tablet beneath the eaves reads “Temperley” over “18 Place 26”. The quoins between numbers 3 and 4 form a pier strip. The front gardens are raised over basement offices. The rear of the terrace is stone built.

Wentworth Place, together with numbers 25 to 29 (consecutive), the archway to the east of number 25, the old Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Bankhead, form a group of buildings of group value.
