Description
The County Hotel is an early 19th-century enlargement of a 17th-century house, with later additions. It is two storeys and an attic in height, with five windows on one side and two on the other. The exterior is stone, with a rendered front and raised, painted quoins, stone band courses to the first and second floors, and stone lintels and cills. It has sash windows with glazing bars. Three half-dormers, gabled and with later glazing, are present in the main part of the roof, which is hipped to the left. A three-window section is separated from a two-window section by a firewall. Steps lead up to a central portico with a plain Doric design and flat entablature. The interior has been extensively altered, and the stair balusters have been blocked for fireproofing. In the older range, which was formerly a gable end to the street on the east side, there are three upper crucks, with a high verge to the south. The building forms a group with numbers 19 to 23 (odd).
