Description
Stainton Vale Farmhouse is a mid-18th century farmhouse that was refaced around 1800, with a later 18th century farm cottage attached to the left. A mid-to-late 19th century rear porch was added, and the buildings are now combined into a single house. The farmhouse is constructed of red brick in English bond, with renewed clay pantile roofs featuring stone ridge tiles and gable copings. It is two storeys high with five windows. The front has a renewed panelled door with an overlight, flanked by renewed, large canted bay windows on the ground floor. The windows are renewed sashes. The first floor has moulded stone sills and keyed, renewed gauged-brick flat arches. A shallow parapet features moulded copings, and end stacks have stone caps. The right return shows horizontal sash windows on the ground floor, a sash window on the first floor, and a renewed garret light, all with glazing bars, stone sills and gauged-brick flat arches. A late 20th century door and a similar garret light are found in the left return. The rear elevation exhibits a round-headed stair window with an intersecting head. A one-storey, hip-roofed porch with a renewed door and window is also present. The attached L-plan farm cottage is two storeys high, with three renewed sash windows and two renewed doors. This cottage has a hipped roof with a transverse stack. Outbuildings to the southwest of the farmhouse, along with a garden wall and gatepiers associated with the farm cottage, are not considered to be of particular architectural interest.
