Description
The drinking fountain, located on the west corner of Milbank Road, was constructed in 1866 and is set into a rubble stone wall. It features medallions in the spandrels above a roll-moulded Romanesque arch, supported by small columns, all framed within a stone panel that has a corbelled coved cornice. Inside, there is a cast iron arch decorated with a Greek fret pattern, along with key and impost blocks adorned with flowery trim and wide pilasters featuring trophies. An arched cast iron panel with a cable moulded border contains a later basin and faucet hood. The fountain was donated to the town by Joseph Pease and later restored by Dr. Freshwater.
