Description
The headstone for Thomas Hall, dating from 1714, is located 20 metres south of the Church of St. Mary. It is a small sandstone headstone, possibly sculpted by Johnathon Welford. The headstone features three rounded top projections with relief carvings: the central projection displays a pair of hands enclosing an inverted heart, symbolizing charity, while the flanking semicircular projections are adorned with rosettes. The inscription, though worn, reads: "Here lieth ye Body of Thomas Son of John and Ann Hall... who departed ... 1714." On the reverse, there is a raised circle inscribed with "Johnathon Welford (?) Fecit."
