Description

A row of eleven terraced houses stands on Coniscliffe Road, built around 1800 and subject to minor alterations in the 20th century. The houses are constructed of brick with painted ashlar dressings, topped with slate roofs featuring ashlar coped gables, kneelers, and eleven brick chimney stacks. Each house is two stories high, raised over a high basement.

Numbers 41, 43, and 45 are similar in design, each with three bays and a flight of seven steps leading to a doorway framed by a wooden Doric doorcase, featuring a four-panel door and a patterned overlight. To the left of the door are two glazing bar sash windows, and above, three similar windows, all with ashlar wedge lintels. Numbers 47 and 49 mirror this design, but incorporate a large, 20th-century bowed window with glazing bars to the left of the doorway, with three plain sashes above. Numbers 51 and 53 continue the pattern, with two plain sashes and two glazing bar sashes to the left of the doorway at No. 51, and two glazing bar sashes to No. 53. Above, No. 51 has three plain sashes, and No. 53 has three glazing bar sashes. Number 55 is a two-bay design with a flight of six steps leading to a doorway with a Doric doorcase, a single glazing bar sash to the left, and two similar sashes above. Number 57 has three bays, a central doorway with a Doric doorcase, a through passageway to the left, and a plain sash to the right, with three plain sashes above. Number 59 is a two-bay design with a sideways flight of six steps leading to a doorway with a Doric doorcase, incorporating a 20th-century glazed door and a bow window with glazing bars to the left. Number 61 is a two-story, double-fronted design with a central doorway featuring a pedimented doorcase, a panel door, and a plain overlight, flanked by single bow windows with glazing bars. Above are two glazing bar sashes. A flight of six steps and a doorway with a wooden Doric doorcase are located on the west gable wall of No. 61. Numbers 41 to 57 are accompanied by attached spearhead railings.

The buildings retain original wrought iron hand and area railings. A carriageway runs between numbers 55 and 57. The rear elevation displays round-headed landing windows fitted with radial glazing.
