Description
This milepost, located about 100 metres east of Killhope Head Bridge, dates from the mid to late 19th century and is made of cast iron. It has a triangular shape and stands approximately half a metre high with a sloped top. The west face displays the inscription "ST. JOHN'S CHAPEL/ 4/ MILES," while the east face reads "ALSTON/9/MILES," each accompanied by a pointing hand in low relief. The top of the post features "WEARDALE/H.D."
