Description
The Park Level Mine jigger house and crushing mill water wheel, built in 1870 and restored around 1980, is a notable structure located in Killhope. It features coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and has quoins on the wheel substructure, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The jigger house is a single storey with six bays. The north elevation is mostly blank, except for two boarded doors under stone lintels. To the right, stone walls support the wooden frame for the 34-foot diameter iron wheel, which has an arch that allows water to drain away from the overshot wheel. The south elevation includes shuttered windows, a boarded door with an overlight, and small square vents located below most windows. This site is also designated as a scheduled ancient monument.
