Description
This former lock-up, dating from the early 19th century, is located west of the former police house on the north side of Stanhope A689 in Lanehead. It is constructed from lime-mortared grey sandstone and features quoins, with a stone-flagged roof. The building is one storey high with a basement and consists of one bay.
The front has a blocked basement door and window, both under thin flat stone lintels. There are L-plan steps leading to a boarded Dutch door on the right side. The roof is hipped, with a chimney at the left end that has a thin string course. The right side of the building includes a flushed basement door under a flat stone lintel and tiered pigeon holes with stone shelves in the gable peak. At the rear, there is a partly-blocked window with top glazing bars.
