Description
Greenlaws, formerly a Primitive Methodist chapel, is now a house. It dates from 1858, which marks the rebuilding of a chapel originally constructed in 1824, as noted on a panel over the porch. An extension was added in the late 19th century as a memorial to Jonathon and Oliver Humble, provided by their family. The chapel features painted incised stucco, while the extension is made of coursed squared stone with painted ashlar dressings. It has a Welsh slate roof topped with a stone spirelet.
The building is one storey high, with the chapel having three bays and the extension one bay. The central gabled porch contains a renewed door and fanlight set in a keyed round arch supported by pilasters, with gable coping and a roll finial. Above the porch is a recessed date panel. The chapel has flanking round-headed windows, which have renewed glazing bars and projecting stone sills. The lower extension is set back slightly and features side steps leading to a half-glazed door with a thin stone lintel, as well as a similar lintel and projecting stone sill for a fixed light on the right. Stone gutter brackets are also present.
On the left end of the chapel, there is a spirelet supported by a corbelled small square corniced turret, with a blind trefoil on each face. The broach spire has a cushion-moulded top and is topped with a wrought iron finial featuring a spiral-and-leaf design.
