Description
This is a house, now used as a shop, dating from the 17th century, with alterations in the 18th century and the early 20th century. Deeds indicate ownership back to 1610. The front of the building is constructed of Flemish bond brick with painted ashlar dressings, while the rear features older masonry on the ground floor. An English garden wall brick runs above, and the roof is covered in Welsh slate. The building is four storeys high and one bay wide. A four-panelled door provides access to a side passage at the left, with a shop entrance located on the right. The shop front features a cornice that juts forward to support a first-floor oriel. Late 18th-century sash windows are found on the upper floors, each with flat stone lintels; the top-floor windows have thinner lintels and projecting stone sills. A tall brick chimney is located at the right end of the facade. A rear gabled wing incorporates late 19th-century paired sash windows under a wooden lintel and single sash windows under a gable. It also has dentilled bands on the first and second floors. The interior has not been inspected.
