Description

Two houses, originally separate, later combined and now used as two shops with accommodation above, and with an additional house to the rear. The front range dates to the late 17th century, the rear building to the 17th century, with 20th-century shop fronts added.

The front range is constructed of English garden wall bond brick, mainly in sizes 7 by 1 inch, with painted ashlar dressings. The roof is not visible and there is a brick chimney. The rear building is of English garden wall bond brick, 6 by 1 inch, linked to a timber-framed building with a rendered ground floor set upon an old sandstone rubble plinth, with brick above. The rear building's roof is also not visible.

The front range is four storeys high, with five windows. There is a bracketed fascia to the shop with a raised panel above a six-panel passage door, which has a patterned overlight to the extreme left. A mid-20th century shop front is located to the right. The upper floors feature a blank bay to the left, and the sash windows have glazing bars, projecting stone sills, and flat stone lintels. The windows on the first floor to the left have no sills or glazing bars, and the top floor lintels are formed of header courses. There are three-brick-wide floor bands, except on the first floor, along with an eaves band. A chimney is located at the left end. A moulded round rainwater head and drain with lugged fixings is at the left on the fourth bay.

The rear link is three storeys high, with three windows and floor strings. The rear building is also three storeys high, with three windows overlooking a passage or yard. The first floor is jettied on exposed beam ends and a bressumer, featuring carpenter's marks. There is an external rendered chimney stack on the gable end. The interior has not been inspected.
