Description
79 and 80 Saddler Street is a house that has been converted into a restaurant and offices. It dates from the early 17th century and is constructed of painted brick with a Welsh slate roof. The building stands three storeys high and features two windows. The ground floor has been altered, while the upper floors have header-course lintels and projecting stone sills that support late 19th-century sash windows. There is a band on the second floor.
Inside, there is a dog-leg staircase with a straight flight leading to the third floor, featuring a wide moulded handrail supported by fat turned balusters. The newel posts are moulded and topped with turned finials, and the closed dentilled string has a pulvinated frieze. The left room on the second floor boasts a richly decorated ceiling with a pattern of moulded ribs, and the panels contain individual flower motifs. The building is also reported to have an early roof.
