Description
The east entrance screen to Rokeby Park, along with its attached walls and railings, dates from the early 19th century and is designed in the Greek revival style. The screen is constructed of ashlar stone, while the side walls are made of squared stone with cut coping. The gates and railings are made of cast iron.
The entrance features double gates with moulded spike tops on the uprights at both levels, curved lower rails, and downswept tops. Similar railings connect to the screen walls. The walls are adorned with end pilasters, with the outer pilaster being double width, a plinth, a Greek Key frieze, a coved cornice, and a central square-headed opening that has a gate on the right and railings on the left.
To the left, there is a 20-metre low wall with arched coping that supports spearhead railings, although some tops are missing. On the right, a similar wall extends to the end pier of Greta Bridge.
The original gate piers from 1725 were relocated in the early 19th century to support the railed screen alongside the A66.
