Description
No. 1 Old Elvet is a house and shop located at the corner of New Elvet, dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of pinkish-red brick laid in English garden wall bond, featuring sandstone ashlar window sills and lintels. The building has a Welsh slate roof and brick chimneys, standing four storeys high with three windows, although the central window on each floor is blank. There are also similar blank panels on the narrow canted angle bay. The sash windows include glazing bars.
The early 20th-century corner shop has vertical panes with rounded top corners and patterned spandrels. Panelled pilasters support a continuous fascia that frames the shop windows, with a corner door and a house door located at the far left. A house window has been bricked up. The roof is hipped on the right side, with ridge and left end stacks, and the right return features similar architectural details.
