Description

The War Memorial in Shotton, erected in 1920, commemorates the local men who served in the First World War. This white marble monument features a life-sized statue of an infantryman standing on a pedestal with slightly battered sides. Each side of the pedestal has a raised plaque. The front plaque, positioned above a carved wreath, reads: "ERECTED 1920 BY THE PARISHIONERS AND FEDERATED WORKMEN OF SHOTTON COLLIERY TO THE MEMORY OF THE 152 MEN WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919." The other plaques list the names of those who died in both the First and Second World Wars.
