Description

The stone gatepost located at the rear of numbers 21 and 23 is a gate pier dating from around 1690. It is made of ashlar and features a tall square design with a plinth, a rusticated shaft, and a cornice. The gatepost has a full entablature topped with a ball finial on an ogee pedestal. This structure was originally part of the yard entrance to the house that is now numbers 21 and 23. It is partly obscured by the wall of an adjacent building, which was likely a coach house originally but has since been significantly altered. The architrave of the gatepost was noted to be partly damaged at the time of the survey. This gatepost is included for its group value.
