Description
The gate posts located approximately 150 metres north-west of The Old Rectory date from around 1846 and are constructed from local mudstone ashlar. This pair of gate posts is intentionally designed to be slightly different from one another for an asymmetrical effect. The right (western) post is more ornate, featuring a gabled head with a fleur-de-lys ridge and a low pilaster on the inside edge, which has a gabled top that extends to the chamfered plinth. The left (eastern) post has a plain gabled head and a chamfered plinth. Currently, they support 20th-century cast iron double gates that have alternate rails only at the lockrail, with simple fleur-de-lys tops riveted on. These gate posts are included for their group value.
