Description
Holebeck Farmhouse and byre is a farmhouse and cowhouse dating from the early 18th century. It is built of thinly-rendered sandstone rubble with a boulder plinth and ashlar dressings, featuring some throughstones. The roofs are stone-flagged, recently renewed on the house, and have gable copings along with stone chimneys that are raised in either brick or ashlar. The building stands three storeys tall, with the house having four windows, while the cowhouse to the right is two storeys and has three bays.
The house features a boarded door in the third bay, which has an inset glazed panel set within a flat Tudor-arched surround. The paired sash windows have wood mullions, except for the low second floor, which has two 2-light single-chamfered stone windows. The gable copings rest on moulded kneelers, and there are three ridge chimneys: the outer ones are made of stone and brick, while the central one is raised in ashlar and has a cornice. The cowhouse is blank on this elevation, and the left return has a mounting block against the external stack.
Inside, the ground-floor panelled room to the left of the entrance features a corniced chimneypiece and a blind arched cupboard set in a pilastered surround with key and impost blocks on the wall adjacent to the cross passage. The dog-leg close-string stair has a narrow grip handrail supported by column-and-vase balusters.
