Description
This is an 18th-century house located in Durham and Framwellgate. The front facade was altered in the late 19th or 20th century with a high-quality, pastiche design. The building is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a stone plinth. Features include alternating quoins, upper-floor sill bands, and other stone dressings. The roof is covered with Welsh slate, and there are brick chimneys. The house is three stories high and four bays wide. The main entrance is a four-panel door with a three-pane overlight, set within a stone doorcase of a quasi-classical style, located in the second bay from the left. The sash windows have glazing bars and are set within architraves that have ears, shoulders, and feet, except for the plain stone surrounds on the top floor. The building has an eaves cornice and a blocking course. There are end chimneys, and a gabled dormer with bargeboards has been added to the right. Wrought-iron railings with spearheads flank the deep doorstep.
