Description
No. 17 Old Elvet is a house dating from the 17th century or early 18th century, with some early 19th-century features. It is built of painted brick and has a Welsh slate roof with a brick chimney. The house is two storeys high and has two bays. On the right side, there is a six-panel door with a margined overlight, set in an architrave beneath a bracketed cornice hood. The windows are sash style with glazing bars; the left bay has a 16-pane window, while the window above the door has been renewed to a 12-pane design. The first-floor windows are set in wide boxes, and the ground-floor windows are framed in wood architrave, all featuring stone projecting sills. There is a two-brick band on the first floor, and the roof is steeply pitched with a chimney at the left end.
