Description

The Old Well is a house that has been converted into a public house. It dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone with painted ashlar quoins and dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof that features stone gable copings and both ashlar and brick chimneys.

It stands three storeys high and has a four-window range. The entrance, located in the third bay, features a six-panel door with an overlight that has patterned glazing bars, a plain stone surround, and a hood supported by shallow dentils. To the left of the door is a wide, late 20th-century shallow bow window with a plain surround and new masonry beneath it. To the right of the door, there is a sash window with glazing bars set within an architrave, with similar sash windows on the first floor and smaller four-pane sashes in similar surrounds on the second floor. The top windows project from the architrave of the top entablature.

The building also has a cyma-moulded eaves gutter cornice and projecting quoins. The roof features end gable copings that rest on cyma-moulded kneelers, and the end chimneys have been renewed, with the left chimney sitting on an ashlar plinth. The interior has not been inspected.
