Description
The L-plan farm buildings, located 30 metres north-west of West New Houses Farmhouse, date back to 1668, as indicated by the date on the door lintel, and feature 19th-century alterations and additions. Constructed from squared rubble, the buildings have stone-flagged roofs and a stone chimney stack. The layout consists of a former farmhouse and flanking end sections that create a linear group, with a former loose-box and hen-house range attached at right angles to the right.
The farmhouse and end sections are two storeys high with six irregular bays, a low plinth, flush quoins, and a straight joint between bays four and five. In bay two, there is a chamfered doorway with alternating jambs and a Tudor-arched head, along with a lintel that has raised letters reading "WC 1668." To the left, there is a blocked opening beneath a relieving arch. A two-light chamfered-mullioned window to the right has had its central mullion removed and now features a fixed eight-pane light. Several openings have been altered to accommodate boarded and Dutch doors. The first-floor openings, also modified, include a 16-pane sash window in bay four. An external stone stairway, which has a kennel underneath, leads to a boarded door in the right bay and to an opening for the hen-house. The continuous roof has coped gables, and there is a stone stack above the joint with a top band and water table.
The lower two-storey, three-bay building, which was formerly used as loose-boxes with a hen-house above, has flush quoins and a Dutch door in the right bay. The centre bay features a first-floor hen-hole and ledge, while the gabled right return has altered openings.
At the rear of the farmhouse section, there is a projecting two-storey left bay. A one-storey, two-bay rear outshut to the right has a boarded door and a lean-to roof with coped gables.
Inside the former farmhouse, there is evidence of two Tudor-arched stone fireplaces against the left end cross wall. An attached one-storey range on the left return of the farmhouse section is not of special interest.
