Description
Number 51 and the attached walls are a house dating from around 1760, located in Barnard Castle. The building features painted incised stucco with ashlar dressings and has a roof made of synthetic plain tiles, complete with stone gable copings and chimneys. It is two storeys high and has a three-window range. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door with an overlight that has petal-shaped glazing bars, all set within a plain stone surround featuring a keyed round head on imposts. The outer bays contain 16-pane sash windows with fine glazing bars, while there is a blind window above the door. The roof is adorned with gable copings on cyma moulded kneelers and has tall chimneys located in the middle of each slope on the left gable and on the ridge at the right end. A rear hall window features broad glazing bars. The interior has not been inspected, but the area walls are made of plain stone.
