Description
Nos. 20 and 20A on South Street is a late 18th-century house that has been divided into two residences, incorporating an earlier building. The exterior features painted render with a brick rear wing, and the roofs are made of pantiles and Welsh slate, topped with brick chimneys. The building has an irregular plan and consists of two storeys with four bays, along with a low one-storey, two-bay extension on the left.
The main entrance is through a six-panelled door located in the third bay, which is set in a wide architrave and has an overlight. This door is flanked by short fluted pilasters and a moulded cornice. A similar door is found in the second bay. The sash windows, which have glazing bars, feature projecting stone sills, and there is a blank space above the door in the third bay.
The left extension includes garage doors and a horizontal sliding sash window positioned at the eaves. The gable of the rear wing rises above the roof and has a small sash window in a wide box under a header course lintel, with 20th-century bargeboards. The tall end brick chimneys were raised in the 20th century.
