Description
This is a block of three houses located in Masterman Place, Middleton in Teesdale. They were built in the mid-19th century for the London Lead Company. The houses are constructed of coursed squared sandstone with an ashlar plinth and sandstone dressings. The roof is made of graduated stone flags.
The houses are arranged over two storeys and are each two bays wide, resulting in a total of six bays. The central house is slightly recessed. New doors are positioned beneath three-pane overlights in the first, third, and sixth bays, with flat stone lintels above these and over sash windows featuring fine glazing bars and painted projecting stone sills. The roof is hipped and features corniced ridge chimneys and roll-moulded ridges, with eaves gutter blocks. A two-storey, one-bay extension to the right is set back and not considered to be of particular interest. The houses are included on the listing for their group value.
