Description
No. 5 Newgate is an early 18th-century house that has been adapted over time, now functioning solely as a residence. The building features incised stucco with quoins and painted ashlar dressings, topped by a Welsh slate roof with a yellow brick chimney. It stands three storeys high and has a two-window range. On the left side, there are paired doors set in a painted stone surround, with a left boarded door likely leading to a yard and a step up to the right half-glazed four-panel shop door. The shallow projecting shop window includes two large panes separated by a slender mullion, with angle pilasters on a rendered stall-riser, topped by a fascia and cornice. The upper floors have plain sash windows within architraves, with the second-floor windows being smaller. The roof features a tall chimney with a dogtooth cornice near the right end. The interior has not been inspected.
