Description

The Morton tomb, located approximately 19 metres south of the Church of St. Mary in Middleton in Teesdale, is a headstone dating from around 1741, dedicated to Mary and Martha Morton, who died in 1741 and 1723 respectively. It is made of sandstone ashlar and stands about 0.8 metres high. The tomb features a deeply moulded edge and a shaped top, with an inscription and verse on the front. The reverse side has fielded panels arranged in a saltire pattern beneath the shaped top panel.
