Description

The Black Lion Public House and former stable wing is a public house with a stable wing located at the rear. The public house consists of two sections: the left section is likely from the early 18th century, while the right section dates from the late 18th to early 19th century, with later 19th-century alterations and re-fenestration. The stable wing was built in the early 19th century. The building is rendered, featuring renewed Welsh slate roofs and brick chimneys, while the stable wing has a pantiled roof.

The left section of the public house is two stories tall with two wide bays, featuring replaced four-pane sash windows and ground-floor windows with external shutters. The long-span roof is hipped to the left. The one-bay left return has similar windows. The right section is three stories tall with two bays, including a four-panel door set in a pedimented doorcase and a four-pane sash window with external shutters to the right. Above, there are similar windows without shutters. A restored, diamond-shaped sundial is positioned above the first-floor windows. The roof has late 20th-century raised brick verges and rebuilt end chimneys.

The two-story, eight-bay stable wing is attached to the rear of the right section and features openings under brick basket arches, including four original Dutch doors on the ground floor and blocked openings above. The two bays closest to the house were altered in the late 20th century to create a kitchen.
