Description

The Crosshill Hotel is a building that was originally three houses, dating from the early 18th century. It has undergone alterations and features a mix of materials. The left section is two bays wide, constructed of brick with a pantiled roof, while the remainder is made of coursed rubble with a 20th-century concrete-tiled roof. Brick chimneys are present.

The two-storey, two-bay left section has had its original 12-pane sash windows replaced with 20th-century casements above. It features a dentilled brick eaves band and a steeply-pitched roof that is hipped to the left. The left side has a 20th-century plank door with a margined overlight set in a late 19th-century doorcase, along with a shallow mid-19th-century bow-fronted shop window and a replaced 12-pane sash window to the right.

The centre section is also two-storey and two-bay, while the right section is three-storey and two-bay, both displaying scattered fenestration that includes some original 16-pane sashes. There are two late 20th-century glazed shop fronts on the right and its return. The steeply-pitched roof has slightly-swept eaves and is hipped to the right.

Inside, there is a fragment of an early 18th-century dogleg staircase featuring a closed string and turned balusters, located in the attic. The centre and right sections are included for their group value with the left section, and the entire building is listed partly for its contribution to the townscape.
