Description

This is a mid-18th century house located on the south side of Newgate in Barnard Castle. It is constructed of coursed squared stone with quoins, and has painted ashlar dressings. The roof is covered in graduated stone slates with stone gable copings and a ridge, and has rendered and stone chimneys. The house is two stories high with a two-window front. A single step leads up to a boarded door with a narrow glazed panel, set in a plain stone surround to the left. There are similar surrounds to the plain sash windows. An iron-barred cellar grate is located between the windows. Quoins are visible only on the left side of the building. The roof features raised gable copings on cyma-moulded kneelers. The end chimneys have decorative stone copings, with the right chimney having a chamfered top. The interior of the house has not been inspected.
