Description

This is a late 18th-century house with an addition from the mid-19th century, located in Barnard Castle. The house is constructed of hammer-dressed coursed squared stone and rough render, with ashlar quoins and painted ashlar dressings. It has a roof of stone slates with a stone ridge and brick chimneys. The house is two storeys high and originally had a two-window front, with a one-window addition to the left. The main section of stone has projecting rusticated quoins and a stone step leading to the front door, which is recessed within a raised stone surround. Similar surrounds frame the plain sash windows on both floors, either side of the door. A similar sash window with a flat stone lintel and projecting stone sill is found on each floor of the left-rendered bay. The roof has ridge chimneys at the left end and at each end of the main building; the right chimney has been raised and rendered. The interior has not been inspected.
